Wyatt

30yo Registered QH
Wyatt's pasture is about to be sold, leaving him homeless!
We're urgently working to either
find a good home for Wyatt: a foster home under USHO
or to raise funds to cover his first year costs here at USHO.

9/3/08 Wyatt got a great vet report!

Abcessing in the hoof is bad farrier work.. he’s all unbalanced on that foot and blowing abcesses out the top at the heel. Absolutely NO sign of IR or of any history of founder, absolutely bad farrier work. The vet trimmed his fronts to make him more comfortable and recommended getting a farrier who knows what they’re doing.

His teeth are also bad work (he’s been done with a hand file for last several years)… he has bad hooks way in the back that are cutting him and his bite just isn’t even close to meeting up. We’re trying to arrange to take him to a stable where the vet can do is teeth properly (w/sedation, etc). He has teeth and should have no problems eating hay once they’re straightened out.

His back was all sorts of out of whack, turns out our vet knows the woman that did the ‘chiro’ on him before and she’s only a masseuse … Our vet worked on him for quite a while and got him all adjusted for now. His back is weak, but he should be okay to carry children. I asked about his temperment and the vet thought he seemed like he’d be fine for kids to groom and work around. The only thing Wyatt even objected to was having his mouth looked at. For everything else, he was great.

He has a great coat and is in very good shape for his age. The vet said he’s even kind of flashy. He's carrying really good weight considering his teeth (and should do great once his teeth are correctly floated). He has absolutely no signs of cushings or any other old age diseases.

All in All, this is great news and so now we're going to step up trying to find him a home before his farm is sold and rework our estimate of his costs to come to USHO!

Wyatt is a very sweet and gentle QH who's had trouble eating lately and his owners can no longer keep him. The field where he'd been boarded is about to be sold, he's not a good candidate for most boarding stable because he is currently getting three feedings a day. So we need to find a new home for him or raise the funds to take him vary fast. Temperment wise, he's a very nice horse. After Wednesday, we'll have a very clear understanding of his health needs.

We've already raised the money to have him thoroughly examined by a vet and he's scheduled for Wed, Sept 3rd at 5pm. The results will be posted here as soon as we have them.

Wyatt is generally in good health, but he's not been able to chew hay and grass very well lately. Its possible that he'll need a soft diet (soaked forage cubes). He needs senior feed. His only other health issue is that he's been off and on lame in one hoof and that will be examined and diagnosed on Wed as well. He has a great personality and was riden and shown by a 15yo begining rider last year. Below is a recent picture of Wyatt.
