USHO is located close to Sugarcreek Livestock Auction, a known auction on the kill buyer's route. The majority of horses that go to sale at Sugarcreek are purchased for slaughter. Our Community Outreach Programs are aimed at preventing horses from ending up in the slaughter pipeline.

Thoroughbred Rehome Program

USHO provides services to rehome race horses on or near the tracks in OH, western PA or WV. Contact us if you need help getting them listed onto CANTER or want them advertised. We provide services for ALL horses, regardless of their health or disposition.

Horse Owner Assistance

USHO provides services to assist horse owners in need. If you are or know a horse owner who is having trouble, contact us. We provide assistance that may include temporary hay, troubleshooting horses who aren't maintaining good weight, working with troubled horses and rehoming horses to safe homes without going to auction.

Gelding Assistance

If you are a veterinarian who knows of a "Backyard Breeder" we will provide assistance in the costs of gelding that stops the production of excess horses if you convince them to geld their stallions.
